Acupressure is safe and effective way to induce labor. By applying pressure to certain points on the body, the uterus is stimulated to contract and/or the cervix to dilate and efface(thin).
Before going ahead with any form of induction, one should consult her doctor first, so he/she will know what is going on, and wich form of induction is best for her. While consulting the doctor, its a good idea to go over the points you will be using, and making sure one is using the right point.
One point is on the inside of the leg, between the two bones on the inside of the leg, about three and a half finger widths up from the ankle bone. Another point is between the thumb and finger. It can be found where the fingers are joined.
The points are rubbed in with a steady pressure in circular motions for about five-minute on each hand, switching back and forth. Remeber, it's a good idea, to go over these points with your doctor, so to get the right point. Before going ahead with any form of induction, one should consult her doctor first, so he/she will know what is going on, and wich form of induction is best for her. Do not use acupressure with homeopathy. Use alone, since acupressure may interfere with the homeopathic remedy. Th use of acupressure, may be uncomfortable during pregnancy, since these points are tender and sore when pregnant. If discomfort does occur, it means the proper spot has likely been found.
An other point, although painless, must be done by an acupressure. The points are on the ear, and are stimulated by very small balls, the size of a grain of salt, or sugar. The balls are taped to the pressure points, until active labor has been induced. By using a special instrument the points are found, and by applying pressure to these points, the uterus is stimulated to contract, and active labor begins. Once in labor, the balls are then removed, so not to make labor stronger then necessary. This method has no side effects, is cheap, and painless, which makes this a good option for overdue women. The same can be accomplished with acupuncture, by placing small rods into the ear until active labor takes place.
