- If your baby is unconscious there is a risk that your baby may choke on there tongue or be sick.
- To prevent this cradle your baby with there head lower that there cheast so that there airway is open.
- While you are waiting for the ambulance to arrive make sure you keep checking your babies pulse and breathing.
- To find your babies pulse place two fingers on your babies inner arm do not use your thumb as you have a pulse on your thumb and may not detect the babies pulse..
If baby has stopped breathing:
- If your baby has stopped breathing you will need to do mouth to mouth ventilation.
- Place one finger on your babies chin and the other hand on her head and tilt there head back slightly to open babies airway.
- Remove any obvious obstruction.from your babies mouth.
- Seal your lips tightly around your babies mouth and nose into your babies lungs an-till you see there chest rise. When this happens you then remove your lips and let the chest fall back.
- Continue with this for one minute aim to do one breath to every 3 seconds.
- The check your babies pulse if it is under 60 beats per minute begin chest compressions.
Chest Compressions:
- Only use this method if the pulse is absent or under 60 beats a minute.
- Position your index finger in the center on the nipple line on the lower breastbone.
- Place the next two fingers on the lower breast bone, just below the nipple line and press down sharply to a depth of 2cm, do this 5 times in 3 seconds.
- Give one mouth to mouth ventilation repeat this cycle for 1 minute.
