How to make your own Baby Board Books

Supplies You'll Need
  •     30X20 Foam Board
  •     Old Sales Ads (Any will do)
  •     Glue or paste
  •     Clear Contact Paper
  •     Yarn or that plastic weaving thread
  •     Carpenters knife, or sissor blade
  •     Nail
  •     Yard stick, and pencil
  •     TLC

MAKES 4-5 BOOKS

1.     Line a graph on the foam board of about every 6" across, and every 5" tall. For a straighter line, dot every 6th inch across and every 5" across, so you can line the dots up and connect them with the line.

2.     Now take the knife or sissor blade, and score over the graphed lines. Be careful not to cut yourself! Go slowly so the score is straight. Now, go over that cut several times only harder, but still slow, so you won't get off your line and make it crooked. When you are almost through the board, flip it and do the last score so the edge will be smoother.

3.     Now that you hve the pages, now is a good time to place the holes for the yarn to go through. (Use a ruler to make each straight and equal with the other page.) Take the nail and use a hammer or other blunt object to carefully tap the nail hlf way through, then flip it and finish through to the other side.

4.     Okay now go through all of the ads and magazines and cut out basic pictures of like shapes, or babies. I'm going to use babies since that is what my little one is fasinated with right now. So I go and cut out good simple pictures of different babies, so later I can paste them on the 5"X6" pages.

5.     Now that I have all of the pictures I should need, I can start arranging them on a page to see wich ones I want to place where. If I'm going to put more than one picture on a page, I will need to arrange them and see which ones will fit together. Then I paste them on, and allow each page to dry. Oh, you can use about 4 or 5 pages per books, and it wouldn't be too thick.

6.     Okay all the pictures are now pasted on, I can get the contact paper and CAREFULLY place one page on it towards the edge, and fold it tightly over and place the other side on it as well. This will also protect the edge of the book from drool, and wear. This is the trickiest part of all since once that page touches the contct paper its STUCK! So you REALLY have to be careful not to mess this part up unless wrinkels are okay with you. To help prevent a mess up, Don't unwrap alot of the contact paper at once. Just the amount you will need to cover the two sides, then if you want you can cut it, or leave it rolled. If you cut it, it might fly up and catch but if you don't you have all of the extra wraped paper to deal with and try to keep out of your way, so neither way is better than the other.

You can repeat this to make more books as well.

7.     NOW go to the holes you made earlier, and repeirce them with the nail, or a pen. Now you can thread the yarn or plastic weaving thred through. Tie it, and you're done! :) Now yo have a lovely cheap baby book made with love for your baby, or to give as a gift. :).
