Staying Healthy During Pregnancy

When you are pregnant it is even more important to stay healthy than when you are not pregnant because everything your body deals with your baby also has to deal with. To help your-self and your baby to be as healthy as possible, some simple measures can be taken.

1) See your doctor as soon as you think you may be pregnant.

A doctor can provide you and your baby with special care when necessary and will keep track of how both of you are progressing throughout the pregnancy.

2) Ask your doctor about exercise.

Some women find that light to moderate exercise during the early stages of pregnancy can help alleviate some discomfort and give them more energy.

However, do not attempt any strenuous exercise.

3) Your diet is of utmost importance when you are pregnant

your baby must have the correct vitamins and nutrients to grow and mature in a healthful way.

Eat plenty of vegetables and milk. You should not eat low fat when you are pregnant as your bodies demands for fat are greater during this time.

Avoid caffeine. It is makes you jittery, think of what it does to a 3 pound fetus.

4) Alcohol is ABSOLUTELY off limits when you are pregnant.

Studies have shown that drinking even small amounts of any kind of alcohol even infrequently can lead to Fetal Alcohol Syndrome which can cause retardation and facial deformities.

Alcohol is also a major cause of low birth weight and delayed growth.

5) DO NOT smoke when you are pregnant. Your baby will also become addicted to Nicotine and smoking can also lead to low birth weight and various other complications.

Most of all, use your head. Don't do anything you think might put yourself or your baby in danger. If you have questions about your diet, exercise, or habits ask your doctor what is best and how you might be able to find better ways to keep yourself and your new baby healthy.
